The Midwest Independent Booksellers Association has put together a list of all the indie bookstores located across Minnesota. We took that pamphlet and put it into a little map for ya. Why shop at the indie bookstores?
1. Your supporting your local community. Spend $100 at a local and $68 of that stays in your community. Spend the same $100 at a national chain, and your community only sees $43 (https://www.indiebound.org/indiebound-faq).
2. Smaller carbon footprint. Shopping locally means less transportation and packaging materials.
3. Independent bookstores offer more selection than the big chain bookstores. Find out about new and upcoming authors that you may not see in larger retailers.
4. Service and ambiance is often better. Lots of local shops have animals to pet, well-displayed books that follow a theme, and cozy reading nooks to cuddle up with a good read.
5. Children's story times that often include local authors and illustrators.
