If you haven't been to the Riverview Theater in the Longfellow neighborhood, you need to plan a visit soon. The theater describes themselves as "21st century cinema technology in a 1950's style theater." Walking inside you feel like you've stepped back in time to the theater days of our yesteryears. While the decor has a 1950's flair, the theater reminded me of my movie-going experiences as a kid. The large retro carpeted entry hosts a seating area filled with mod couches, chairs and 70's lamps. It makes going to the movies feels special again. Instead of booking your tickets online, preselecting your seat, and timing your arrival for that sweet spot after the previews and just before your movie starts, at the Riverview Theater you purchase your tickets from a real person and maybe arrive early to enjoy lounging in the seating area.
The best part about this theater is the ticket prices- TWO BUCKS! On Friday and Saturday nights during the summer they host 11:30 showings of some of the best old schools movies for only $3. Check out the lineup here.
There is also a glass-lined concession stand with lots of cheap (and tasty!) eats. For the kids you can get a snack box filled with popcorn, candy and your choice of drink for only $4. Kids can select treats from the $1 section but you can pay a little extra for the upgraded candy. Bonus- all of their popcorn is made with real butter.
There's only one theater and its huge! With over 700 stadium seats, there isn't a bad spot in the house. According to their website, the theater sound system includes, "a Dolby CP650 Cinema Processor; QSC DCA Series amplifiers; Electro-Voice, QSC, JBL and Klipsch loudspeakers, a QSC DCM-3 Digital Cinema Monitor and a DTS processor."
